PROTECTO WRAP
The Butyl Hybrid formula, a new BT25XL Window and Door Sealing Tape, provides maximum adhesion even in extreme temperatures. The new blend also has increased adhesion on difficult to adhere substrates such as OSB and DensGlass Gold. The tape forms a permanent seal around doors and windows that prevents air and moisture leaks. Moisture intrusion that causes black mold is eliminated. The tape can be installed and left exposed for 120 days without any UV degradation.  It is also the only flashing tape that has passed ASTM E331-90 hurricane level windblown rain test, the supplier reports.

POWER ADHESIVES
The Knot-Tec wood repair system from Power Adhesives Ltd. allows manufacturers to use an entire board rather than cutting it before or after a knot or defect, thus eliminating waste, increasing yield and maximizing use of the raw material. The manufacturer fills in the wood or knot with the molten adhesive and allows it to dry. After removal of surplus glue, the wood can be treated or painted as usual. The system uses Tec 250 hot melt adhesive applicator and Tecbond 7718¼12 polyamide hot melt glue sticks, available in amber, beige, black or cola.

CANNTEC
A film-over-foam option from CannTec adapts to the company’s current Orbital Stretch Wrapper models. For long parts such as anodized aluminum extrusions that are easily scratched, the first layer of soft polyethylene foam adds an extra soft cushion, which is then over-wrapped by a tough-skin of standard pre-stretched clear stretch film. The stretch film process uses no heat or ovens and reduces costs by as much as 70 percent in materials and electrical consumption in comparison to conventional shrink film processes, the company reports. Bubble cushioning material can also be used in place of the foam layer.

RUVO
The 9808A Hinge & Strike Jamb Mortising Machine from Ruvo Manufacturing will mortise for two, three, or four hinges and will cut for the strike hole and rectangular faceplate, with only one operator. The hinge jamb is clamped in place, the first hinge is routed and then the jamb is automatically advanced to the next hinge location.  While this is taking place, the operator places the strike jamb against the left or right hand stops, and manually follows a designated template cutting the strike hole and face plate. Templates are easy to replace for various size and shape plates, the company notes. The machine works with split or flat jambs, and with or without applied stops. Designed for exterior door applications, the unit is adjustable for length and width of jambs, location and number of hinges, size of hinges, size of strike hole and face plate.

GLASSTECH
The FCH2 architectural flat-glass tempering system from Glasstech Inc. is a gas-fired, forced-convection system that processes clear or coated glass, including hard- and soft-coated low-E glass. Under normal circumstances, the system can heat clear glass at a typical cycle time of 30 seconds per millimeter of thickness and high-performance, soft-coat low-E glass at a typical cycle time of 33 seconds per millimeter, the supplier reports. Reduced heating time provides for higher quality with less distortion, improves productivity, results in superior flatness and reduces processing cost. Gas-fired, forced-convection heating offers the lowest energy costs per square foot of glass processed and has been proven to be as much as 50 percent less expensive to operate than standard electric heaters, according to the company. Also, gas provides 25 percent shorter cycle times.

ANDERSEN
Andersen launches this week a new visualization tool for consumers to design custom wall plans using the company’s windows and doors. The WindowCentrics Wall Planner, found at http://andersenwindows.com/design, takes users through the process of computer-aided design with the simplicity of point-and-click technology. Consumers can choose a wall shape from 16 available templates, select from one of six families of windows and patio doors to use, and then drag-and-drop countless pre-designed window and door combinations or individual units onto the virtual wall space. Users can also personalize their designs by selecting window trim stain and color options, and adding color and texture to the wall. Ghost images of everyday household items like furniture, pets, people and plants are available to help demonstrate scale. With the ideal virtual wall created, buyers can create a PDF to share with contractors, architects or friends and family.

STÜRTZ
The compact sash line from Stürtz Machinery Inc. can produce up to 900 welded and cleaned sash per shift with one operator in less than 1,200 square feet of space, the supplier reports. The line consists of two horizontal four-point sash welders—each automatically unloaded via a single tier belt system. Welded sash are transferred onto a twin tier buffer and transport table which separates the squares and feeds them into an infeed belt buffer. The buffer conveyor then feeds each square into an automated four-head pass through sash corner cleaner. The programmable, CNC machine cleans all four corners of the sash at the same time. Compact tooling arrangements allow for four-head cleaning on sash as small as 12 inches by 12 inches. The welders can be mounted on a common base and conveying systems are kept to a minimum length, which still allows for adequate buffering through the line.
