Mikron

Several vinyl impact window systems were designed and tested to meet or exceed Miami-Dade and other hurricane-related codes and standards, the company reports. The use of vinyl extrusions ensures low maintenance in harsh coastal environments. Custom impact systems are also available.
Several turnkey vinyl window systems are available to meet replacement window line needs. From interior woodgrain laminates to multiple sash platforms, both interior and exterior glazed, plus a true sloped sill dedicated head double-hung are all available.
A full line of styles have been added to the MikronWood composite windows and doors line including casement, awning tilt double hung, direct set picture and transom picture windows. The styles match casement and double-hung frames, slider, and multi-panel sliding and in-swing patio doors. Profiles are also available with SRC solar reflective exterior colors for low solar heat absorption. The windows and doors are made with solid core composite fused with a durable SRC finish. Made from a blend of special thermoplastic alloy resins, they meet or exceed AAMA tests for strength, stiffness, durability and weathering. With lower heat-transfer values than wood, hollow vinyl and fiberglass, the material is impervious to moisture and insects. MikronWood composite windows and doors
Stainable real wood veneers for PVC profiles offer the richness of real wood interiors and low-maintenance benefits of a vinyl window. The vinyl profile surface is primed before the vinyl and laminate are heated to achieve a permanent bond when the two surfaces are applied together. A SprayTech system is used for the interior laminate process, before the wood laminate is precision trimmed to match the profile shape. Several species are available to complement wood interior doors and trim, including ponderosa pine, red oak, maple and cherry. Interior wood grain film wrapped laminates are also available for a different look and lower cost, in natural oak, Harvard oak and cherry. The film laminates can be used in any combination with the PVC colors.
The SuperCapSR color system for window and door profiles provides darker exterior colors offering superior solar heat-reflective performance. The technology creates a molecularly fused color layer that becomes an integral part of the profile. The acrylic color layer is scratch-resistant and durable during delivery and installation, the company reports. Born from military infrared reflective technology, the colors absorb less heat to prevent heat-related profile distortion. The color option is available on both vinyl and MikronWood profiles.

PLV

An advanced extruded profile measurement system from PLV Systems Inc. benefits window and door manufacturers as they can use “in position measurements” to establish proper tolerances. The system measures squareness, angles and flatness of a profile. It allows the user to overlay nominal drawings or master samples onto the incoming profile, and save and record the dimensions as well as the image of the profile. It also supports multiple datum spaces.

PPG

Solarban 70XL solar control low-E glass is now available to residential window and door manufacturers from PPG Industries. With a clear, color-neutral aesthetic, the glass provides an SHGC of 0.27, and visible light transmittance of 64 percent in a clear insulating glass unit, the manufacturer reports. The amount of summer heat that enters the home is greatly reduced, while the glass also keeps homes warmer in the winter with a U-value of 0.24. Solarban 70XL solar control low-E glass
Several new brochures are available to educate homeowners about the benefits of PPG products. A piece about Sungate 500 low-E glass explains how after 20 years the glass remains one of the industry’s most effective and energy-efficient window glasses by transmitting 76 percent of the sun’s natural light while blocking 30 percent of its solar heat energy. The product also enables windows to trap furnace heat 28 percent more effectively than windows made with ordinary glass. Solarban 60 solar control low-E glass, which has a clear appearance and a coating that blocks solar energy during the summer and traps furnace heat in the winter, is the focus of a second piece. The glass allows more than 70 percent of the sun’s natural light, while blocking more than 60 percent of its solar energy. Another new brochure details the insulating and energy-saving advantages of windows made with the company’s Intercept warm-edge spacer system. The brochure explains the effects of the metal spacer and its enhancement to the performance of the window sealant.
